The Best Running Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis

If you are an avid runner like me, you probably know about plantar fasciitis. This is when the plantar fascia is stretched too far, by too much unprotected impact of the foot. Most runners know that if they are going to avoid the pain of plantar fasciitis, they must invest in the best running shoes with active support. If you already have plantar fasciitis, it’s likely you do not have enough support for your ankles, arches, heels and Achilles tendon.

What Features do the Best Running Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis Have?

This is a huge topic, so much so I wrote a huge guide covering all the different aspects you need to watch out for when choosing the right shoes for your condition. If you don’t have time to read that first, let me lay out the short version for you now:

If you are already suffering from the condition, you need to get shoes that have an extra layer or two of shock absorption, to counteract the constant hitting of the feet on pavement or the ground. Just like with an automobile, if you have good shock absorption, you have a much smoother ride. The same is true for your feet. Strong support of the ankles and arches of the feet is also preferred. If your feet are held in the correct position, the fasciitis will eventually heal, because your arches are not over stretching.

Cheap Shoes that are made with cheap materials are unlikely to give you the support you need to run on a regular basis, so be prepared to spend more money for good shoes. They will feel stronger than cheaper shoes, and be less flexible. Having soft, pliable shoes is not what you want for running with plantar fasciitis. The first thing any good shoe outlet staff will recommend is a sturdier shoe, while the soft and squishy soles are comfortable to wear they won’t be after a few miles covered ground.

The Best Running Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis

There are many running shoes on the market, but finding the best shoe is critical for preventing plantar fasciitis and recovering from it. The best shoes are covered below, first up, my personal daily runners The Brooks adrenaline GTS:

Brooks Adrenaline GTS (10+ styles)

This shoe has a segmented midsole for a smoother feel. It does this by enhancing the heel to midfoot transmission. They are great for runners with plantar fasciitis and are good for walking, standing and running. These are my personal favorites, and I’ve already worn through two pairs running and hiking around Tennessee Valley.
